Second floor.

This will be our bedroom. This photo was taken just before we asked for bigger windows in both those spots.

It makes a little more sense now with the wooden walls acting as dividers. This will be a walk in wardrobe off the master bedroom.

This is the main bathroom on the second floor. The orange pipe on the right is for the bathtub. The ones on the left are for sinks and shower cubicle.

The office.

Beer break.

The foreman complained today about the number of windows we changed. I'd promised him beer last time but never delivered. He said today that the more beer I bring the less of a problem changing windows will be. Seems like a fair trade to me.

Slow learners.

We thought we had learned from the previous problem of putting in a much-too-small window. Nope. We haven't. Arrived at the site today and realized that our bedroom window looking at the mountains is way too small. Luckily it wasn't too late to change and the builders were able to change it immediately.

A hijacking

Ivy has clearly hijacked our blog to discuss flowers and lace doilies. And I'm too slack to bother translating any of that. I'll be back soon with new pics of heavy machinery and power tools. Don't fret.

More hardcore chicks.

This is why Ivy works in graphic design and not construction.

Second Floor

This is the second floor office. If you think it looks like a mess now, wait til Ivy moves her crap in.

This is looking from the office through to the master bedroom.

Cemented.

The wood has been removed so you can see the cement now on the first floor. It will take about 2 weeks to dry properly.

Second floor going up.

I really thought that building a house in Asia would involve a lot more bamboo scaffolding. Ah well.....

This last photo is looking up where the stairwell will eventually be.

Hard core chick!

This lady was hard core. Climbing up the scaffolding with her purse.

First floor cement.

The cement has been put in the walls on the first floor. The wooden supports won't be removed until the cement is dry.

You can see the cement drying here in one of the window frames.

Workers

I counted 14 workers getting ready to lay the second floor cement today. How bout that?!?!?

And another 7 eating their lunch.

Too fast?

This is looking in from the kitchen sliding door. The metal poles support the roof while the cement dries.

This is the front porch with the supporting column on the right. I am imagining this will be where Ivy keeps her four billion pairs of shoes.

Central island.

This is what happens when you don't make things clear. Mr Lin thought we wanted to have a central island connected to the surrounding cabinets. We actually wanted a free standing island in the middle. Unfortunately, we didn't make it clear and we had to ask them to did up and move all the piping accordingly to the middle of the kitchen. We might be the most painful clients he has had so far!!!

Laying some cable.

I wish I could say what these are for. I kinda guess that the blue ones are for air conditioning units and the orange ones are for normal appliances. But I cannot say that with any authority. Some of this cable piping will also be used for stereo speakers. I really don't like cables running all over the floors so we've asked the electrician to leave piping through the walls so that won't happen.

Thursday 16 February 2012

First floor.

From the south side of the house looking at the spare bedroom.
This is looking from the kitchen into the living room. Fella with the cap on is Mr Lin, the boss. The guy in the middle is the electrician. He is there to find out where the outlets for the speaker cables will go so we can bury all the cables within the walls.

Window Pains

This window is way too small. After we realized that we can clearly see the mountains from the deck and the kitchen, we asked to have a massive picture window here. But Mr Lin forgot. I met him this morning at the site to discuss and he said that it is no problems to change it. Will involve ripping out the support struts above it but then it will go all the way to the top of the door.
The photo below is more like it. We had to ask Mr Lin to have his boys come and cut out the metal supports in order to make it work. He was quite happy to do it I think as it wasn't really our fault.

Sunday 12 February 2012

Shower head idea.

If anyone knows where I can get one of these in Hualien, please let me know asap. No more fights with Ivy over the shower head.

Saturday 11 February 2012

Home

We had to do it at some point I guess.
The Jones' house!

He Huan Shan

We went out to the house this morning and realized we can see He Huan Mountain from the kitchen and the deck on a clear day. With this in mind, we decided to enlarge the window at the back of the kitchen so we can look at the mountains while we are doing the dishes. Snow on the mountains this morning.

Floor going in!

The cement truck arrived today to put in the floor. It's all happening a lot faster than we ever expected. Ryan also came by today with a bag of beer cos as he said you can't go to someone's house empty handed.
We did notice a small problem. The piping for the center island in the kitchen is in the wrong place. The construction company boss did say it wasn't a big problem and he will fix it for us meaning we can still have the central island like we wanted.

This is the front porch.

There's Ryan. With beer.

Tuesday 7 February 2012

Just one day later. This is looking in the kitchen.
Some energy drinks for the workers. The red tape on that metal pole is the floor level.
That might be a dunny pipe.
水管
Foreman in the foreground. He doesn't do much, just tells the workers what to do. There are ten guys hard at work on the house this morning.
